The Doubling Cube

The Doubling cube is a rule that says the following: If one of the players is leading the game, there is an option to announce the 'Doubling', which means to double the stake price of the game. The partner can accept it or not. By refusing it, he will lose the game immediately, but the stake will stay as it was originally. By accepting the proposition, the stake will be doubled and the partner on the weakest side will get the cube as a compensation.

During the game, the position of the cube can be changed again and the player that didn’t use the cube yet, will be able to use it and double the stake again. Of course that if you want to know how to play backgammon well and use the cube correctly, you need to use your own judgment and know the common situations to use it during the game. We recommend you to read the article 'The doubling cube' that explains these positions in detail.
